OUR Centre
A bright, modern, and welcoming space where young adults with learning disabilities come together to connect, grow, and thrive. Our Centre acts as a central hub – the heart of Rise Up Care – linking activities both out in the community and across our two key settings: the Centre and the Flat. From tailored activities to skill-building sessions, it’s a space where independence is nurtured, confidence grows, and friendships flourish.
Work Experience
We help clients gain real-world, on-the-job skills through supported placements empowering them to grow in confidence and unlock their potential in the workplace.
Overnight Respite
Comfortable, homelike stays that offer peace of mind to families and a supportive environment for individuals to thrive overnight. Our respite service is also a perfect opportunity to build independence and prepare for future supported living, helping young adults gain confidence and experience in a safe and structured setting.
Activities & Support
From skill-building sessions to community outings, we design programmes that foster growth, independence, and lasting social connections – and most importantly, are fun, age-appropriate, and engaging.
Poppys Story
Hi! My name is Poppy. I joined Rise Up Care in 2022 after leaving my residential college. I first learned about Rise Up Care around that time, and I’ve now been here for three years. I absolutely love it!
I have Williams Syndrome which affects my mobility sometimes. Rise Up has been so accommodating with my needs, even allowing me to bring my wheelchair. In the past, other settings wouldn’t let me use it because they assumed I could walk and didn’t need it. Rise Up’s understanding and helpful approach made me feel comfortable from the start!
I’ve built some great friendships. When I moved to Torbay, I didn’t really know anyone, but now I have the best friends in the world.
Rise Up has helped me build confidence and learn many skills—like cooking, traveling, and other life skills. We’ve also gone on fantastic residential trips, such as a Christmas trip to Butlins!
I love the staff. I feel loved, cared for, and safe here. It feels like home, and we’re all like family. I would recommend Rise Up to anyone because it’s a fantastic place to learn, develop skills, meet new friends, and have an amazing time!
Hayden’s Story
Hi, I’m Hayden (or, as the staff call me, King Hayden). I’ve been at Rise Up Care since 2023, and I really enjoy it—it’s my favorite place! I love all the staff; they listen, and we always have a good laugh.
They’ve helped me become more independent with traveling. When I first started at Rise Up, I needed help getting from home to the center. Now, I travel independently in my wheelchair, and my road safety is great—I feel happy and proud when I do this, and it helps me feel more independent and grown up.
I always look forward to coming here because it’s such a positive place—I like seeing everyone. I’ve also become much more confident about asking for help and sharing my needs. I used to be a bit shy, but now I know I’m important, and it’s okay to ask for help. Doing so means I can access everything my community has to offer and take good care of myself.

Hi, I’m Tamzin! I joined Rise Up Care almost a year ago, and I love it! I have Williams Syndrome, which can be challenging sometimes, especially with my anxiety. Rise Up has helped me feel comfortable and safe. I’ve made wonderful new friends, and Rise Up have supported me in improving my communication, social skills, and overall life skills.
I would recommend Rise Up Care because they help you face challenges and build your confidence. I also like that there’s a quieter space upstairs for when I need it. I really enjoy going on trips and doing activities, and it’s comforting to know I can talk to the staff whenever I feel anxious. One of the best parts is that I never have to hide my feelings—everyone at Rise Up understands and supports me. Before coming here, I often felt like I had to hide away due to my anxiety, but now I’m so much more confident.

At Rise Up Care, we believe every individual’s journey is unique. That’s why we create personalised support plans designed to help adults aged 18–35 with learning disabilities achieve their personal goals. Our dedicated team collaborates with each person and their family to identify aspirations, map out practical steps, and provide the right level of support at every stage. Whether focusing on life skills, social connections, or new experiences, we celebrate every milestone and champion each individual’s success.
Skilled Support
At Rise Up Care, we believe in consistent, compassionate, and expert support. Every member of our team receives the same high standard of training to ensure quality across the board. This includes:
- Level 4 Makaton
- Epilepsy Awareness & Midazolam Administration
- PEG Feeding
- Crisis Intervention techniques
- First Aid and Safeguarding
All training is reviewed and refreshed annually, so our team stays up to date with best practices and evolving care standards. With thorough DBS checks and ongoing development, our staff are fully equipped to deliver care that is safe, skilled, and centred around the individual. Commissioned by Torbay Council and the NHS, we offer day activities, overnight respite, and more — all focused on building confidence, independence, and meaningful outcomes.
